| ACC Environmental Consultants - Data Management Contract Background This nation-wide bank has over 5,000 properties throughout the United States. These properties cover a wide range of building types, sizes, and ages ranging from in-store ATMs to high rise office towers. The Problem The bank had tried to maintain a home-grown database of asbestos information and file cabinets full of other types of environmental investigations for each of their properties. When they performed renovation activities, bank personnel needed to know if asbestos was present in the building and following abatement, the remaining locations of asbestos needed to be tracked. Current laws required the bank to provide employee notifications in California and contractor and vendor notifications throughout the United States regarding the locations of asbestos in the buildings where they worked. Due to the overwhelming volume of information and the regularity with which it changed, the banks home-grown database and paper-based systems were proving to be difficult to keep up-to-date, as a result, the bank decided to out-source development and implementation of an environmental information database to a single consultant. Because of their familiarity with the ADAM system, ACC Environmental Consultants was selected by the bank due to develop and manage their environmental data on a nation-wide basis. The Solution ACC started by importing all of their existing electronic asbestos records into ADAM. Where the bank only had hard copy reports, ACC entered the information into the system. To track the remaining locations of asbestos following abatement, ADAM is used to record abatement projects information as projects are completed. When new surveys are performed, new asbestos survey data is entered into the database which is then used to print out consistent and comprehensive inspection reports incorporating old and new sampling information as appropriate. To enable building and project managers to access the ADAM information, the software is used to build general information and environmental notification web pages, which are posted on the banks Intranet site and updated six times per year. The banks property and construction managers rely on the web pages as their first source of information about the property. If additional information is required, the web site will link users to e-mails and contact information for the ACC Call Center and project management resources. The ACC Call Center staff can respond quickly to requests for information using the networked database system to look up existing records and reports for bank personnel. To generate employee notifications, data from the ADAM system is exported and merged with the human resources and tenant databases to generate asbestos notifications to meet Connelly Act and OSHA 1529 Asbestos Construction Standard notifications for contractors and tenants. The ADAM system has been used successfully for this bank over the past 8 years. For more information about ACC Environmental Consultants visit:accenv.com |
