Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are the system(s) requirements?

Windows 95, 98, 2000, XP, Windows NT/2000:
Pentium 133 MHZ
128 MB RAM
Hard drive (configuration depends on the amount of data, minimum 40MB)
VGA Video Adapter (SVGA with 256-color compatibility recommended)

Macintosh:
Apple G3
128 MB RAM
OS X
Hard Disk Drive (configuration depends on the amount of data, minimum 40MB)
Color Monitor

Network Support:
Microsoft compatible IPX/SPX or TCP/IP for multi-user file sharing in the Windows environment
Appletalk, MacIPX, and TCP/IP support for multi-user file sharing in the Macintosh environment
For PC/Macintosh interconnectivity-Appletalk and IPX/SPX

For viewing drawings, Windows version of AutoCAD release 13 or DWF Viewer

2.  What are the Networked Installation Requirements?
General: ADAM can be run as a networked multi-user application. The ADAM Server software must be installed and running on the server before files will be accessible using the ADAM Workstation client software. Both the ADAM Server and the ADAM Clients must be configured to have the SAME network protocol.

A. Workstations must be running either Windows 95, 98, 2000, XP or Windows NT/2000 Workstation (3.51), have at least 64 MB RAM (more is better), 800x600 SVGA display, and must have access to a CD reader either locally or through the network.

B. Workstations MUST be in the same networked WORKGROUP as the server hosting the ADAM Server databases.

C. The server must be Windows 95, 98, 2000, XP or Windows NT3.x/4.0/2000 running TCP/IP or Microsoft compatible IPX/SPX protocols. Your server DOMAIN must be the same as the DOMAIN settings on the client workstations.
It is not unusual for ADAM files to take from 320 to 2 GB's of space on the server hard disk.

D. ADAM Server broadcasts on channel 3005 when using TCP/IP protocol. Be sure that if your network traffic travels through a router or a firewall that transmission of packets on this channel are not blocked. Otherwise, client workstations will not "see" the hosted ADAM files.

E. You can have four or five users connected simultaneously to the ADAM server before there will be noticeable speed degradation. If you expect to have more than five simultaneous users connected, you should purchase the FileMaker 5.5 Server package directly from FileMaker Corp. and install it on your Windows NT/2000 server. This package costs approximately $1,050.

F. Determine the network user names of the potential ADAM users and confirm that these users have "read and write" privileges to the directories created and filled by the ADAM install procedure. These directories include:

G. ADAM SERVER must be running on the server anytime an ADAM workstation connected to the server needs service. Usually, this entails that the ADAM server program stay running at all times on the Server (except for when back-up tapes are being run)

H. Dial-up adapters on the workstation often conflict with ADAM networking on TCP/IP networks. Remove the dial-up adapter from the Network Preferences and try the ADAM workstation start-up sequence again. If ADAM works and connects to the server, then add the dial-up adapter back in if you really need it and test ADAM again. On some systems it is IMPOSSIBLE to get ADAM to work in a networked environment with dial-up adapters on the workstation.

I. ADAM runs fastest when running on a stand-alone computer and in stand-alone mode with NO network protocol specified. However, if you need to share your ADAM files with others you will need to use the network mode instead. If your users need STATIC data and do not intend to update the data, then the stand-alone mode may be adequate. These users will need a complete copy of all the programs and DATA on their local drives. In some cases, the file size will be prohibitive.

J. Program performance will be directly impacted by the speed of the server’s disk. The service load on the server for other applications, and the number of simultaneous ADAM users logged on will also affect performance.

3. Does EcoLogic Systems offer a money back guarantee?

If you are not completely satisfied with the ADAM or SMART system, you can return them within 30 days for a full refund of the amount rendered for the software.

4. For ordering, how should I identify specific programs and modules?

The following modules are available for ADAM:

* Base Asbestos System (Required to run other modules)
* Lead-based Paint Manager & Reporter
* Asbestos and Lead Notification Generator
* Indoor Air Quality Manager & Reporter
* Abatement Project Recordkeeper
* Environmental Site Assessment Recordkeeper
* Hazardous Materials Inventory Manager
* ADAM Web Companion

The following modules are available for SMART:

* OSHA Employee Recordkeeper (Required to run other modules)
* Project Recordkeeper
* Exposure Monitoring Recordkeeper
* Hazardous Materials Inventory Manager
* Abatemetn / Remediation Contractor System
* ADAM Web Companion

5. Do I need training before I use the system?
Although our systems are very intuitive and easy to use, we feel it is extremely beneficial to receive proper training on the protocols for entering data into the system. Training can be provided on-line or during an on-site Quick Start program.
